Tinted lip balm

I've been in search for a tinted lip balm for the longest time, okay, maybe not the longest time, but for awhile now. They do intrigue me since I absolutely love chapstick. (Me + chapstick = best friends fo life) I'm not a huge fan of lip gloss, even though I do like the juicy effect on my lips, but the fact that it last all of 5 minutes on me just doesn't really appeal to me. It makes more sense that I just eat the gloss straight out of the tube then.

I've been recently getting into lipsticks, I like the fact that it gives color, not sticky but its very grown up looking. Sometimes I feel really "old" and high maintenance when I put it on,  like wow, I feel like my mom (not the best feeling). So I think the perfect solution is tinted lip balm, not sticky and thick, moisturizing like chapstick and gives off that hint of color that equals absolute perfection.

So this weekend I went out because my boyfriend's cousin needed to buy a laptop at Lowyat. For some strange reason the atms wouldn't accept his HSBC card so they had to walk all the way to HSBC and while they were away I went into Etude House in Sungeiwang. I think its a Korean makeup brand, I've never bought anything from them but I've stopped by their shop a few times to realize that its pretty pricey. But they were having a crazy sale with everything atleast 10% most were 20% and quite a few were 50% off. I got only 1 item since I was pressed for time. That was this tinted lip balm called Milk Screw, I know, who comes up with these names?? I liked the color of another lip balm tint more but it was not in stick format. I don't like applying lip stuff with my fingers, all I think about is germs.

The flavor Milk screw that I got was called Mango milk #5, it cost only 10 buck something, which was 20% of 12 something. It smells nice, not very strong as my other chapsticks, I like them to have a yummy scent. I wouldn't describe the scent as mango though, but its sweet not sickly sweet. I'll give a more indepth review when I've tried it out for longer, but so far its great. The color payoff is gorgeous, like you've been eating fresh strawberries all day type of color.  I would recommend it...so far

Beauty Abbreviations

You know how you're reading a review for a makeup product and all of a sudden there's an abbreviation that makes absolutely no sense at the moment. Okay, it might not happen for you smarter girls but I get super frantic trying to figure it out. I got most of them from makeupalley but I deleted the ones that were unnecessary or just didn't make any sense, I also added a few that I knew that weren't on the list. I'm not really the type that would use abbreviations or acronyms because I find hidden joy in typing things full out, but its always nice to know what other girls are talking about.

Fashion Trends I Currently Hate

I do try to keep up with the trends once in awhile but there are some that I'll probably avoid just because of how completely unflattering they are. Maybe on some people they're pleasing to the eye, but I bet you a million bucks most people can't pull them off. So here are a few of the ones I currently dislike...there's probably more but I can't think of them at the moment.

1.
I don't know if this is a trend- leggings/tights worn as pants. ooooh YUCK. I don't mind it with a beyond the hips top, but if I see butt cheeks, I cringe. And I've seen a lot of girls do this...even the larger ones...camel toe anyone? (oh and I also hate metallic like tights...seriously, you are not a super hero)

2.
tye-dye leggings bleached/washed denim jeans (the 80's are over!) I love the throwback retro feel that the millennium has given fashion, but the one decade that should not be revisited are the 80's.

3.

Skinny jeans. As much as people are screaming that skinny jeans suit everyone...they seriously don't...unless you're skinny, then I hope you die in the hell you've made normal people try to live in (I'm kidding... no, not really)

4.
pointy shoulders(or anything with shoulder padding, once again the 80's are over its time to move FORWARD) I cringe at pictures of my childhood with me wearing a ruffly humongous like shoulder pad dress...I'm 5 dammit, I don't want to look like I play football

5.
Boyfriend jeans/shorts---they're freaking ugly, why don't people get it? I told my boyfriend about this trend and he was pretty horrified and told me not to touch his jeans. I feel like they could be bordering on Mom Jeans

6. open-toed boots. they look painful. And I'm all about comfort

7. oxford flats--mmm...not very pretty. But I DO like oxford heels

8. animal print---Its a bit much for me

9. Tops that try to be a 2 for one deal but they're sewed together. I don't think this is a trend, but I dislike the fact that they're sold in stores. I don't mind them separately, but a cardigan sewed to a shirt makes that cardigan absolutely useless for other outfits. I don't see why anyone would invest in that...how lazy are you?

That's it for now....if there's anymore I'll update you. Are there any trends that you hate?

Mineral makeup is awesome

So I've been playing around with makeup for the last couple weeks. More so than usual. The reason why is because I'm trying to get into mineral makeup. My friend from Singapore bought Everyday Minerals like TONS of samples. She found her color and she gave me the rest which was like 10 foundation colors. And picking and choosing the foundation color was hard as hell. But anyways, I kinda pushed them to the side because I was using Maybelline Pure Minerals (not so pure by the way) and it was working pretty alright for me. And then one day  I decided to try to pick my color. So tons of arm and face swatches later, I chose Golden medium / Light medium. And for some strange reason I was having "good" face days as in no breaking out, none of that tiny random adult acne. And I was ecstatic, its a breakthrough! I tried to go back to Maybelline one day and broke out just sporadically. It was very sad for me, since I love the coverage of Maybelline and the fact that it keeps me oil free all day long.

So yes, I thought this is absolutely amazing I'm going to just wear mineral makeup from now on. Now I haven't really fully utilized the makeup, you know going out into the sweaty sun for long periods of time, I usually go from non-sunny room to non-sunny cab to non-sunny train to non-sunny mall. So yeah, I went out with it one day and I took fresh makeup pictures and when I came back, it looked really dark. Like super dark, like I went out and decided to stay in the sun for 6 hours type of dark. I was like okay?? This is weird. I went online and I read that the problem with mineral makeup is the fact that it Oxidizes. I know...WHAT?! Yeah apparently, when you sweat in generous amounts the mineral makeup mixes with your skin to create that not so gorgeous orange glow. So you don't see it initially til its too late :'(

So some of the solutions of oxidized mineral makeup was to choose a lighter shade. Seriously, that's exactly what I want to look like a geisha. So back to choosing the foundation color, AAAAGH! Helpful hints or tips for choosing mineral make up(I have experience[kinda]):
  • 1. Make sure your arms are clean before applying swatches(you don't want oils or other crap on your arm to effect the color of the foundation)
  • 2. Use your fingers. For every foundation color use a new finger(don't mix) or wipe your finger before dipping into another color.
  • 3. Make sure you remember the order of which you applied the foundation colors, they end up looking the same and its gets insanely confusing.
  • 4. I use the upper inside of my forearm to test the color because that's the closest color to my face OR just swatch it straight onto your face
  • 5. Here's the best tip. I apply them wet. I started becoming delerious because they all began to look EXACTLY alike. Plus I think with them wet it shows what would happen if I sweat with it on.
  • So I pretty much lightly(very lightly don't just plunge it) dip my finger in water and then into the sample and onto my arm and continue to do that with the rest of the colors until I have a nice tiger-like design running down my arm. When your testing it on your arm keep laying it on thick, dip a lil water if necessary so it doesn't look like just plain powder.
From there I sit and wait, its even better if you do it in partial sweat, yea, go for a jog or do it my easy way and just turn off the air conditioning. The waiting part is because the color of foundation changes either darker or orangey-er, atleast for me.
The golden medium that I totally thought was my color turned a light brown, which is not very golden or medium. I finally settled on 3 colors, Light, Light neutral and Winged Butter(too yellow tho).

Initially the colors look pretty pale on me, but then after 15 to 30 minutes to 2 hours it was my shade. So pretty much I start the day 2 shades too light, but instead of orange they do turn slightly yellowy-er Which is fine because I'm pretty yellow.

So after I've chosen which colors I think suit me, I test them on my face. What I did was use 1 color on half my face and another color on the other half. And then I go about my day bumming around and check my face for changes, whilst sweating(very important). Couple hours later I decide which foundation is best suited for me. They probably both look very similar, so its up to you. Yup this whole process took me a week. hahaha, I was very indecisive and the turning orange on me was unexpected

I wish I did not oxidize mineral makeup, but I'm not really willing to give it up. I haven't had clear skin like this since elementary school.

March Madness sales!

I haven't really been outside of my pajamas since I got my new rabbit on my birthday, so I went out last weekend on the 20th and 21st, and wow, there were so many crazy sales going on, seriously I did not know what I was missing. On Saturday, I went to Megamall with my boyfriend and a friend, I never go to Megamall, probably the last time I went to Megamall was last year around this time. The last time I actually bought anything from Megamall was 4 years ago? I just never find anything there, thus I refuse to go there, because of my limited shopping options. Once again, I didn't really find anything for me, but I did find some stuff for my rabbit, since they have a big pet store upstairs. I got Hartz gourmet rabbit food, yeah I'm already spoiling him. I also got him an igloo house thing so he can hide in, however he only goes in if there's food. I spent the whole time at megamall worrying about my bunny.

On Sunday I walked around the Bukit Bintang area (my favorite area to shop). Went to Sungeiwang, walked around, my boyfriend bought some tshirts and I just went to the Japanese 5rm shop. I love that store its called Daiso, everything, I mean everything is only 5 bucks, and its a pretty decent size store too. I'll do a more detailed review on it later.

We then walked to Pavilion, in the rain. And there were sales, sadly it was 9:00 pm, so I couldn't really check everything out. The first place I went to was Forever21, no big sale. Disappointing, but I like walking around that store. And next door to Forever21 is Cotton On, I'm not sure how popular it is, but its pretty nice and has decent sales, which is why I'm really excited to tell you what I bought from there.

Its a Pink fluffy robe which use to cost RM169.00 and I bought it for only RM49, okay, I didn't buy it, my boyfriend bought it for me because I've been admiring this robe since I first discovered there was a Cotton On. Its so warm and fluffy and feels like my bunny NumNum, amazing. Its knee length and absolute perfection wrapped around my body, my only issue with it is the fact that it doesn't have pockets. I have another robe, but its more of a bath robe, its made out of towel material, but it does have pockets and I guess I'm just use to that.

I've been needing something like this because my computer is directly underneath the air conditioner, so I get freaking cold, especially the top of my head. But luckily this robe has a hoodie, I love anything with a hoodie. The pink is so loud and vibrant, but not to worry, there were other colors too at the Cotton On branch in Pavilion, besides pink, there was white, yellow and blue.

The funny thing is, my boyfriend has worn it more than I have. He's now declared it OUR robe, even though I've told him repeatedly that it's pink and MINE. His computer is also in the direct line of the air conditioner, maybe farther away but it still hits him. So I'll catch him wearing it randomly while his playing on his computer. He's still manly of course...it just that no one can deny the yumminess of this robe.

 ah, love.

Vincci Vs. Nose

The two shoe shops that are everywhere in Malaysia and I mean everywhere. I bet they heavily compete with each other trying to sell the newest trends. They're both around the same price range of 25+(except when they're on sale). They both are usually located in the same mall. They both have the same quality of shoes, not great but not cheapo. But at the end of the day, who's better?

The first non-sneaker I've ever bought was from Vinnci and they literally killed my feet. Seriously I could barely walk in them, that and they broke really quickly. But I don't blame Vincci, I was a sneaker girl and I assumed all shoes were comfortable. Nope, they're not. I continued to buy more and more shoes, each one breaking within 6 months. And I mean straps tearing, tips of the heel coming off so it makes that horrible nail scratching sound, horrifying, just horrifying. I wish they both provided a service to replace them, but I highly doubt that.

Here's my opinion, when it comes to jumping on the lastest fashion trend and having a wider range of shoes, Vincci definitely wins by far. But for some reason, during uni I got most of my shoes from Nose. They don't have the super fancy shoes like Vincci, nor do they have a wide range of work shoes. But they do have great casual shoes that fit my feet (I have very wide feet) and don't break as often(yes, they still break, but they're cheap). I think I also like the atmosphere in most Nose shops, its because Vincci gets really crowded and the shop is so big a white, but Nose is smaller and not as busy.

I find it funny that when one of them is having a sale the other one is also having a similar sale. They must be super competitive. I also find it funny when they have identical shoes, the same gladiator sandals and black pvc plastic pumps. I think Nose has better sales, granted, when they're having their sales they do put out some really ugly shoes, but I find that Nose has more variety of 50% off shoes than Vincci, especially flats and sandals.

Strangely enough, as of lately I've been buying a lot more Vincci shoes. I love wedges and Vincci seemed to cater towards my current tastes. Nose just isn't in the game anymore, they definitely need to step it up. My least favorite branch of Vincci is KLCC, even though I go in there every time I go to KLCC, just because you know its Vincci. I find that during sales, its sooooooooo crowded and you have to beg for attention. There's no such thing as trying without buying, you feel horrible to try something and then they give you this look like, "you're going to buy that right?" and you kinda get guilted into buying it because they're so busy and they just don't have time for the likes of you. Okay, maybe I'm being overly dramatic, I'm definitely being overly dramatic, I just don't like feeling guilty for not buying something, that just makes me not want to enter the shop. Shopping is a good feeling, retail therapy is my friend.

The best branches of both of them are in Sungeiwong, okay the Vincci one in Sungeiwong is horrible but it has a larger selection of shoes on sale, if you can't find the shoes you're looking for in KLCC, go there, its just that its super crowded during sales and there's barely any places you can walk or try on shoes. The Nose in Sungeiwong is good, its on the bottom floor, it doesn't ever get too crowded, I think its because some people just forget about it because barely anyone goes to the bottom floor. But they have a good selection of discounted shoes when they're having a sale. And they're usually okay if you try without buying. I like the Vinnci's in Jusco Wangsa Maju, I can try without buying anyday, just because its mostly empty.

The battle is Vincci's service vs. Nose's no variety

So who wins? Both or neither...you tell me.

Introductions

To start off with, I love shopping, especially during sales and for bargains. As in, I never buy anything unless its on sale. I definitely got that from my mom. She refused to buy me anything unless it was more than 50% off, so now I have the bargain bitch mindset. What I think is the bargain bitch mindset is knowing what you want and not getting ripped off on the way there. I do not like getting jipped, it makes me a bit angry. I hate going to Chinatown and the sales guy is telling me that its 200 bucks when it literally looks like its not worth 10, I want to smack them. So I am the type that gets a little mean, only when they deserve it of course and when its called for.

Yes, I am that girl that would dive willingly into RM5 bins searching for the next cute top. So this blog is going to be about my buying experiences and reviewing products and maybe showing off my looks maybe. I'm still undecided, I'm always undecided. I would just post it in my other blog, but sometimes I write things a bit on the heavy side and this blog is all about the happiness of shopping and makeup and shoes...oh my...

I live in KL but originally I'm from the U.S. I decided to live here because the shopping is freaking amazing, I'm joking...partially.

10  Random Confessions:

1. I'm obsessed with makeupalley.com this site is probably the best site to get an overall view of any beauty product you'd want to buy. I always go here before I purchase any makeup. And once you're on the site its just so addicting to look at what other people think of products you've tried, or look at product you never thought of purchasing but has high rates, you would actually consider it. Its makeup reviews by the people, for the people.

2. I don't shop high end, its very rare for me to actually buy something at lets say, Topshop and not feel jipped. I'm just not that girl who would buy a tank top for 50 ringgits. I go into Topshop of course, but its window shopping and checking out the new trends. The only time I buy from high end is when its on SUPER sale and its literally a steal.

3.Oh and I buy most of my makeup from Watsons and lowyet.net.

4. Of the few times I splurge on clothes, its usually on coats, dresses, and shoes. I know, I live Malaysia, coats arn't really a part of the norm. But you can take a girl out of the cold but you can't take the cold out of the girl, that doesn't make much sense. I've always loved coats and if I see a good deal on them I'd buy it, that and I secretly want it to snow in this tropical country.
I probably have over a hundred dresses by now, I am a girly girl in that sense. I wear dresses to every occasion, and that usually makes me overdressed all the time. Well shoes are shoes, what girl doesn't have their own mini collection of shoes?

5. If I really love something from the store, I wear it out the store. And usually just to be fair, if I buy a new item I usually would wear it within a week. That way in my head, I could be all like, I've worn it, so it shouldn't have its feelings hurt, yes, I do think clothes have emotions.

6. My most favorite items of clothing are probably among the cheapest items of clothing. Tank top for RM3, dress for 10 bucks, jeans for 15.A lot of my friends are like where do you get these clothes and most of the time you kind of have to just dig, piles, racks. One of the shops I go to is in Timesquare on the fourth floor, I call it the 10rm shop cuz everything, everything is 10 bucks. Almost all their clothes are gawdy and gross and have no rack appeal whatsoever. But once in awhile you find a really awesome top/dress/jacket/skirt, the thing with that shop is it changes its stock all the time. I'll post some stuff from there, I got throughout the years.

7.  I have 5 mirrors of assorted sizes, one is full body, another is half body, another is shoulders and above, another is a face mirror and lastly a makeup mirror that makes my pores look huge(aka public enemy #1).

8. I'm still on the lookout for my perfect little black dress. I found it at Zara but no money. Now no stock.

9. The one makeup item I use all the time, is blush. I love blush. Screw mascaras and eyeliners, rouge is the way to go.

10. I have an obsession with teeth. I consider teeth one of the most attractive things on a person. I know, its weird, I walk around staring at teeth, its true and awful.

So there you have it :) Let the shopping begin
